She dashed through the trees with no leaves on them. Her hands were cold, and she could see her breath as she passed by an elderly couple, one holding a cane. Her legs jolted forward - half out of frustration that her more-than-mild crush had decided to go to the UPS store instead of a sunset bike ride with her and half out of ravenous hunger (she hadn’t eaten since lunch, and the sun was beginning to set). She cringed at herself a bit, thinking of things she didn't want to think about, and picked up the pace.
And then, in front of her, was a fox. It stopped in its tracks as she did. They stared at each other, unmoving. It was large for a fox, although she had never seen one off the screen before. It was the size of a small dog and wore a less-than-marvelous coat of brown and red. A little underwhelming, as red foxes go, but nonetheless a sight. Who would move first, the fox in the fur coat or the girl in the Patagonia? Finally, the girl did; she turned around and motioned to the elderly couple, who were overjoyed to hear about the wildlife sighting. The fox nodded its head and lifted its delicate feet. It was gone. And off the girl ran.
